Who Killed Imad Mughniyeh? The Facts
On the 13th of February 2008, Imad Mughniyeh was assassinated in Damascus. Mughniyeh is Hezbollah’s military chief. Hezbollah leader, Hassan Nassrallah promised to revenge the death of his top commander and accused Israel of carrying out the attack. The pro-US politicians in Lebanon are trying to point the finger at Syria to discredit that country and break the alliance between Syria and Hezbollah against Israel. So who killed Mughniyeh? The following is some facts that you need to know, before making your decision:
· In June 1982, the shooting of the Israel Ambassador, Shlomo Argov served as the pretext for the Israeli invasion of Lebanon a few days later. The attack was later attributed to Abu Nidal’s Organization, a known Mossad agent.
· In 2003, US invades Iraq, after a big media campaign accusing Saddam of acquiring WMDs. Colin Powel addresses the UN assembly and displays what he called evidence of Saddam’s nuclear program. Six years later, and after the invasion of Iraq and the death of over half a million Iraqi, a CIA report acknowledges that Iraq had stopped its nuclear program a long time ago.
· Imad Mughniyeh is placed on the top 10 most wanted list, with 25 million dollar reward for any information that can lead to his capture.
· The Mossad undertakes numerous covert operations to assassinate Mughnyeh, but none succeed and they manage to kill his brother in one of the attacks.
· Mughniyeh undergoes two face altering surgeries and adopts a different identity.
· Mughniyeh takes very precautionary steps, and does even sleep under the same roof more then once; he never visits his relatives or his hometown.
· Mughniyeh acts as a liaison between Hezbollah, Syria and Iran since he’s the top military commander in the party’s ranks. He’s always in contact with the Iranian and Syrian leadership.
· 2007/3/10 - Iran’s ex-deputy defense minister defects to the US and starts supplying the Americans and the Israelis of all the information that he holds.
· 2007/7/4 – Al-Anbaa newspaper publishes a list of Lebanese politicians who have traveled in and out of Syria in the previous month. The list is republished in Al-Mustaqubal newspaper. Evidence that anybody can monitor the Lebanese borders and find out who is going in and out.
· 2008/2/13 - Imad Mughniyeh is assassinated in Damascus, Israel and US deny any responsibility
· 2008/2/15 - Israeli PM Olmert, satisfied with Meir Dagan’s(Mossad Chief) performance, decides to extend his tenure for second time to 2009
· 2008/2/17 – The Sunday Times publishes an article detailing his assassination by quoting Mossad agents
